Clinical Team

What the team is there to do The team’s central purpose is to assess each patient’s needs and help them reach the most appropriate care. That may mean treating someone at the scene, taking them to hospital, referring them to a community service, or providing advice by telephone. A clinical hub may carry out a more detailed phone assessment after the initial call and, where appropriate, arrange another kind of care. London Ambulance Service: Clinical telephone assessment Who may be part of it A clinical team can include people with different levels of training and different areas of expertise: - Paramedics assess and treat patients in the community. Some work on ambulances, while others work in specialist, advanced, or remote-advice roles. - Technicians and other ambulance clinicians provide emergency and urgent care, often working alongside a paramedic. Their permitted duties depend on their training and the service’s policies. - Nurses, doctors, and other clinicians may work in clinical hubs or specialist teams, bringing expertise such as emergency care, mental health, or complex medical assessment. Clinical supervisors and team leaders support staff, advise on difficult cases, and help maintain safe clinical practice. Clinical managers and senior leaders oversee clinical standards, workforce development, patient safety, and service improvement.
